Remediating with TrueSpam/TrueCNAM

In this article, we explain how to remediate with the TrueSpam platform.

TrueSpam is a popular platform for end users and carriers alike, for their vast information and honeypot methods they use to detect spam. Carriers can contribute and query information directly from TrueSpam and end users can build apps and other systems using their API to block or otherwise prevent malicious calls from reaching their target (such as other companies, individuals, and more).

In some cases, if you are flagged by TrueSpam, you may have accidentally dialed into one of their honeypots. What happens in this case is that you may have a number you have purchased as a legitimate contact, but instead is intended to alert TrueSpam (and their automated systems) to a potential problematic phone number. We highly recommend scrubbing your contact lists, using forms to request contact first, and ensuring the integrity of your contacts.

As always, also ensure that your calls are fully TCPA compliant.

To get started with remediation for TrueSpam, head to your Caller ID Reputation account and go to "Carrier & App Remediation. Under the Website column in the TrueSpam row, you should see a link for truecnam.com. This is their Contact Us form that you will use to submit a redress/remediation request. See the following for recommended inserts into each field:

Note: This form does not include a Phone Number or Attachments insert. You can either choose to add an attached CSV list of your phone numbers as a reply email (once you do receive an email), or you can add your numbers as a part of the message.

  • Your Email Address - Best contact email for you or your team. TrueSpam may need to reach back out to ensure and validate certain information.
  • Subject - "Request for Remediation/Redress"
  • Message - In this box, you'll want to explain who you are, what your company does, why you perform outbound calls, and that you are compliant with the TCPA. (If you are really not, address your TCPA compliance before continuing!). The following templates may help you further:
    • "Hello, we're with <XYZ Company>. We perform outbound calls for <reason, specify that this could be appointment setting, follow ups, or similar>. Our company website is at https://company.net/ and we receive consent through lead forms and previous requests for contact, which can be withdrawn through <how to withdraw consent for contact, such as "Press 1 to remove your number from further communications">."
    • "My name is <John Doe> with <XYZ Company>. We contact our customers for <reasons listed> and provide a request to withdraw consent using <example, such as Press 9 to be removed from our lists>. Consent to contact is provided through our lead generation forms such as <link to form>."
    • "Hi, we're with <XYZ Company> performing outbound calls for <list of reasons>. Attached is all of our negatively listed numbers on our platform. We would like to request redress and establish a positive reputation with our numbers on your platform. Consent to contact our customers and leads is provided through <how consent is legally given> and can be withdrawn using <how to withdraw request to consent>."

Once the form has been filled out, go ahead and click "Send Feedback" to send off your request form. From here, you should receive a response within 72 hours about the status of your submitted lines.
