Performing YouMail Remediation

In this article, we will discuss how to perform remediation with the YouMail platform

YouMail is one of many popular applications to prevent suspicious and malicious calls from reaching those who have it installed. Similar to Robokiller, it will block calls it deems malicious but also may show a company name if the number is in good standing/registered with YouMail.

As always, ensure that your outbound dialing practices are in compliance with the TCPA.

To get started with Remediation on YouMail, you'll want to log into your account and head to "Carrier & App Remediation". Under the Contact column in the YouMail row, you'll want to use the second URL at support.youmail.com. This should provide you with a form called "Submit a Request".

See the following for recommend values to insert into the fields:

  • First Dropdown - "I need to report an issue with a phone number in the YouMail Directory"
  • Your Email Address - Best contact email as YouMail may need to reach out to you or your team to validate information
  • Phone Number - Insert a best contact phone number here. Similar to the email, this may be used for validation.
  • Subject - "Request for Remediation/Redress"
  • Tell Us More - Here, you'll want to include information about your company, why you perform outbound calls, and anything else that you think may assist with validating your company with YouMail. The following templates may assist you further if needed:
    • "Hello, we're with <XYZ Company>. We perform outbound calls for <reason, specify that this could be appointment setting, follow ups, or similar>. Our company website is at https://company.net/ and we receive consent through lead forms and previous requests for contact, which can be withdrawn through <how to withdraw consent for contact, such as "Press 1 to remove your number from further communications">."
    • "My name is <John Doe> with <XYZ Company>. We contact our customers for <reasons listed> and provide a request to withdraw consent using <example, such as Press 9 to be removed from our lists>. Consent to contact is provided through our lead generation forms such as <link to form>."
    • "Hi, we're with <XYZ Company> performing outbound calls for <list of reasons>. Attached is all of our negatively listed numbers on our platform. We would like to request redress and establish a positive reputation with our numbers on your platform. Consent to contact our customers and leads is provided through <how consent is legally given> and can be withdrawn using <how to withdraw request to consent>."
  • Attachments - Use this to attach additional lists of phone numbers that may be negatively affected.

Once you've filled out the form to the best of your ability, go ahead and submit this form. Within up to 72 hours, you should hear back from YouMail on the status of your numbers. If they choose to not remediate your numbers, ensure your outbound practices are following the TCPA and take note for what YouMail may send you. If your outbound calls are not in compliance with the TCPA, you may find that remediation can become much more difficult, if at all successful.
